Getting there is easy:  Take a 45-minute Air Vanuatu flight from Port Vila to Tanna Airport. We will pick you up for a 20-minute 4WD coastal/forest drive to Rockwater.

*Beware; the roads on Tanna have not been well maintained, so be ready for some rough road adventures!

Why is Rockwater the furthest resort from the volcano?  ForYour Wellbeing and comfort:

Volcanic ash may damage eyes plus poses a health risk to people with respiratory problems (if on the volcano crater, masks and eye protection can mitigate these issues but is not necessary for 99% of the time). This fine ash also infiltrates into rooms, food, clothing, and electronics, making life problematic the closer you live to the volcano.

Tanna Island is subject to continuous ash fall out.  We therefore built Rockwater Resort  the furthest distance (Northeast) for this reason. On a clear day we can see the ash cloud further south flowing out to sea.

Sunsets and calm seas count.

Facing northwest, the resort is in a bay protecting it from Southerly trade winds and rough seas, it is home to a prolific coral and marine life. Ideally positioned to watch the sunset over the horizon anytime of the year. We have many Pan-tropical spotted dolphins  year round and in late July to late August have the Humpback whales visiting us.

TIP: When flying from Port Vila to Tanna Island, book a seat on the left side of the plane (facing forward) for the best views of Erromango Island and Tanna Island.  Rockwater is the first resort you will view as you are descending to land, (have cameras on the ready)...on the right side you will not see anything but an endless ocean. Be sure to book a seat on the right of the plane when returning to Port Vila for the best views of Efate Island.
